Welcome back

I truly hope that you enjoyed a long and peaceful summer. Grade 8 is a big year - leadership opportunities, school teams and clubs, and.....hmmm....I seem to be forgetting something...oh yeah...graduation! I know you will have a great year in this class and here is some information to help you get started. This blog will be updated on a daily basis. I will outline what we did in not only this class but also the rotary classes that day. Homework assignments and due dates are listed at the bottom of this page. It's a great tool to help you stay organized, and if you are ever absent from school just check in here to see what you missed. In terms of school supplies most items will be provided to you, such as notebooks and pencils. Please check with your rotary teachers to see what they might want you to bring to their classes. Usually, this is the point where I would encourage you to go out and buy a good scientific calculator. However, this year I will instead encourage you to download the iStudyTime app developed by Gurvir Chana, a student who was in my class last year. This app has everything you will need to get you through grade 8 - and it's free! Thanks, Gurvir! And now that we're on the topic of personal electronic devices, which includes phones, ipods, ipads, electronic readers, laptops, and anything else I may have forgotten: you may use them only during class time, under adult supervision, and for academic purposes. Work will start quickly so please be prepared. Our first math unit will start tomorrow, and our first novel kit comes in later this week. We don't mess around in 8W! There will be a Blazer Ballot given to the first student who registers as a "follower" to this blog. I hope you have a great and memorable year in this class!
